How Should a Company Address Economic Challenges

Surely the economy affects companies in different ways. Thus, the correct approach to an economic downturn differs from company to company. We can only speak for ourselves.

What are the options? One might hunker down in the safest place possible like we did growing up in West Texas when the tornado sirens blew. We would all gather in the basement on the cots in the middle of the night and listen to the police scanner tuned into the hail-seeking airplane pilots or the tornado spotters.  Both vocations barely qualify for even the most outrageous worker's comp rates.

We have decided to make 2009 the year of Sales and Marketing. We are investing heavily in seasoned, proven, and trustworthy technical sales professionals. We have redesigned our Web sites and have bought extra supplies of stationery for handwritten "thank you" notes. We know our individual marketing responsibilities, and we are now blogging, Tweeting, and using LinkedIn. We train and certify on new products or re-train and re-certify on old ones. We are prepared for the unknown opportunities that will overwhelm us in the future. We will be ready.

iPhone Application Spotlight: Recorder

Have you ever come up with a great idea while driving down the road, but you didn’t have a way to jot it down? How often have you needed to create a to-do list but couldn’t find a pen and paper? I experience those pains regularly, such as forgetting to pick up milk on the way home, or where I parked at the Love Field Airport parking lot. I recently learned, as they say in the iPhone world, “there’s an app for that.”

If you are a proud owner of an iPhone, like me, you might find the Recorder application very useful if you have ever found yourself in these situations. You can record with as little as two taps, making things easier in a hands-tied-up situation.

The Recorder application for the iPhone costs $0.99, and is currently one of the top selling iPhone Business applications! The Recorder can record a few seconds to hours at a time, so you can record interviews, discussions, lectures, and much more. There is also the option of emailing short recordings straight from your iPhone, or you can sync the recordings to your computer using Wi-Fi for longer recordings.

Find it at: http://www.apple.com/iphone/appstore/

Recorder is compatible with iPhone and iTouch 2nd Generation.

Requires iPhone 2.0 software update.

Reconciling the Bank Statement with Sage Accpac ERP Services

Since I first reconciled a bank statement on a computer in 1988, I have completely eliminated paper reconciliations from my life. To perform a paper reconciliation, one must find last month’s reconciliation, print out a G/L transaction listing of the cash account, and obtain the current bank statement to get a new list of outstanding items. Finally, the statement balance must be walked to the bank balance and any items on the G/L that are not already there must be posted. Too many moving parts!

By contrast, we have one Central Texas client who reconciles four bank accounts in thirty minutes by using Sage Accpac ERP Bank Services and the OFX file downloaded from the client company’s banking portal. The payroll account alone has 475 new items every month. Taking a mere thirty minutes to reconcile four bank accounts certainly justifies setting up the system and learning the process. Why doesn’t everyone do it?

Let me count the ways…

SageCRM:

  1. Gives non-accounting users (even those in remote locations) access to information stored in A/P vendor and A/R vendor records, including contacts, addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, and even invoices.
  2. Empowers salespeople who participate in the overdue invoice collection process using the CRM Accounts Receivable Collection Tool.
  3. Maintains vendor and customer contract information, with emailed notifications before expiration dates.
  4. Sets up a workflow for authorization of expenditures with email notification.
  5. Records IT support incidents and resolutions while building a self-help knowledgebase in the process.

SageCRM can do this and much more! For further information, Click Here or call us at (214) 647-2611.

Deadlines. Increasing costs. Competition. Budget cuts. Layoffs.

No doubt about it, companies face tremendous pressures on a daily basis to be successful. What’s more, along with typical challenges, such as delivering quality products and services on time and within budget, companies are being held increasingly accountable for proving compliance with numerous laws and regulations.

An indispensable tool for achieving success on all fronts is documentation. Whether to justify why your company should move forward with an innovative initiative, to communicate effectively with your technical team, or to ensure routine procedures are understood at the most granular level, the benefits of documentation are immeasurable.

Terrell & Terrell, CPAs, LLP offers documentation services to meet a variety of needs such as detailed process workflow diagrams and procedure manuals, and functional requirements documentation and whitepapers.

Stay tuned for the top ten reasons you should invest in documentation and how we can help!
