Company core values in action

Posted by Brian Terrell on Fri, Apr 17, 2015

At BTerrell, our core values guide our efforts to provide back-office development services for Intacct and Sage VARs and their client companies. In a recent article I wrote for the CodePartners blog (our company’s software development division), I included three recent emails from VAR customers offering feedback on the role we played in helping them offer more valuable services to their client companies.

In the first, the bterrell-med_business partner thanks us for sending a weekly status update on the project’s progress, which demonstrates our company core value of Communication. In the second, a VAR praises Ganesh for a “remarkable job…of working directly with the client”, and this demonstrates our company core value of Commitment. In the last example, the business partner highlights the technical difficulty of the project, and it seems that all our engagements are tough. This ability to produce something original that solves a complex business problem demonstrates our company core value of Creativity.

To add definition around our core values, we attach a phrase. Here are the three company core values mentioned and the phrases that clarify and amplify their daily application:

Communication - We keep stakeholders, within and without, aware of what we’ve done, what’s next, and what we need to keep moving forward

Commitment - Team trumps talent when talent is in the team

Creativity - We create client company value, in the form of automation, which looks like magic when first observed

That last value, by the way, charges me up. I like to remind our talented team members that we are artists engaged in the creation process. I know that’s true because if it already existed, our clients would not need us. But they do, and I am grateful.

If you need communication, commitment and creativity from a finance and accounting automation business partner, please give me a chance to discuss that need with you!

A Time for Thanksgiving

Posted by Brian Terrell on Wed, Nov 27, 2013

I exchanged opinions with new friends from California, Oklahoma and Illinois over lunch recently about the greatest inventions of all time. We make our living through automation and technology and are amazed and excited by the miracles technology allows us to experience every day. However, I was not surprised when no one mentioned cloud computing.Happy Thanksgiving to all of our clients

After all, take the invention of antibiotics. How many lives have these saved? Or microwave ovens, which to my knowledge has not saved lives, but are a really cool invention. Smartphones don’t rank highly, at least to me, among the greatest inventions of all time, but I am amazed when I communicate via FaceTime with my daughter in India as she commutes to work in an auto rickshaw!

I could go on and on, which my friends and I did until we came to several conclusions. First, even though we live in different parts of the country, we each claim to live in the greatest city, in the greatest state, in the greatest country, at the greatest time in human history. In addition, we decided we should spend more time thinking about what we have, as opposed to what we want. This really is the best way to think.

During our visit, I enjoyed both an early Thanksgiving and an excellent reminder that every day should be a day of Thanksgiving. I will spend more time thinking about what I have, rather than what I want, going forward. This simple practice completely changes the way I feel and is truly the greatest way to think!

Happy Thanksgiving from BTerrell Group and CodePartners!

Create A Purchase Order from Order Entry in Sage ERP Accpac

Posted by Meredith Gooch on Mon, May 14, 2012

What if you could snap your fingers to create a PO? Well, this is almost that simple. CodePartners created a tool called "Create PO from OE" that automatically creates a purchase order entry when posting orders in the order entry screen of Sage ERP Accpac (soon to be called Sage 300 ERP). You have the choice of different rules to determine whether creating a PO entry or not. It can even be further customized based on your requirements. Take a look at this demo of the tool to see if you could benefit from it as so many others have.
