Time Saving PivotTable Tricks

PivotTables are great for summarizing and analyzing vital data in Excel. This blog post will provide you with some tips that may help you when creating and sending files that include PivotTables.

  • Maintain formatting when refreshing PivotTables.
    • Select Table Options on the PivotTable toolbar menu.
    • Make sure Preserve formatting is selected.
    • Select ok.
  • Reduce the file size before sending a file that includes a PivotTable.
    • Select Table Options on the PivotTable toolbar menu.
    • Uncheck the checkbox labeled "save data with table layout."
    • Select ok.
  • Group dates into Months or Quarters in a PivotTable.
    • Using the Grouping feature in the PivotTable, select the field (date) you wish to group.
    • Right click and select Group and Show Detail.
    • Select Group.
    • Once the grouping dialog box appears, type the starting and ending information in the fields provided.
    • Select the option you wish to group by in the By list.
    • Select Ok.
